Residents who intend to visit the country or are already there should monitor the situation, exercise caution, attend to personal safety, avoid large gatherings of people and pay attention to local announcements on the latest situation. Residents in Sri Lanka who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868, call the 1868 hotline using network data or use the 1868 Chatbot via the Immigration Department Mobile Application, send message to the 1868 WhatsApp assistance hotline, send message to the 1868 WeChat assistance hotline or submit the Online Assistance Request Form, or contact the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka at consular protection hotline: (94) 11-2676033.
Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit – Online Assistance Request Form
- Large-scale demonstrations in Sri Lanka continue. A nationwide state of emergency was declared by the Sri Lankan authority on 13 July 2022.
- On 9 July 2022, large-scale demonstrations took place in Sri Lanka. Protesters had entered the presidential residence, resulting in injuries.
- Since late March 2022, mass demonstrations are occurring throughout Sri Lanka. The authority of Sri Lanka had once declared a state of emergency.
- On 13 May 2019, communal violence broke out in the districts north of Colombo. Curfew had been imposed.
- On 21 April 2019, multiple explosions took place at various locations in Sri Lanka resulting in serious casualties.

Registration for Outbound Travel Information (ROTI)
Before departing Hong Kong, residents may register via ROTI their travel itineraries and contact details to receive updates on OTA and related information. The Immigration Department may contact and assist the registrants in an emergency.
