Overview of Port Building

The Huanggang Port redevelopment project occupies a site area of approximately 87 500 square metres (m2), with a total construction floor area (CFA) of around 690 000 m2. The total CFA of the Hong Kong Port Area is around 250 000 m2. The redeveloped Huanggang Port building is a multi-storey building with customs, immigration and quarantine facilities and public transport interchanges for the Mainland and Hong Kong set up on different floors.

The Huanggang Port building is equipped with barrier-free facilities, including accessible toilets, accessible lifts, etc., catering to passengers with different needs.

Mobile Communications Services at the Huanggang Port Hong Kong Port Area

The Huanggang Port is situated within Shenzhen, with the Hong Kong Port Area and the Mainland Port Area sharing the same interior space within the building. To maintain smooth operation of the port, and to avoid mutual interference of radio signals of Mainland and Hong Kong mobile networks, the mobile communications services throughout the entire Huanggang Port (including the Hong Kong Port Area) are provided by Mainland mobile network operators as approved by the Mainland authorities.

How to Use Mobile Communications Services

Members of the public who wish to use mobile communications services at the Huanggang Port should apply for roaming services from their Hong Kong mobile network operators in advance. If users’ mobile phones have already roamed onto Mainland networks, phone calls made or received and mobile data usage for internet access at the Huanggang Port will be regarded as roaming calls and roaming data usage respectively, and will be charged at roaming rates.

Major mobile network operators offer a variety of mobile service plans that include Mainland roaming usage. Members of the public may consider subscribing to such service plans, or using roaming pre-paid SIM cards or Mainland SIM cards for connecting to Mainland mobile networks.

Emergency Calls via Mobile Communications Services

If a member of the public’s mobile phone has already roamed onto a Mainland mobile network, please call 00852-3661-1733 to contact the Hong Kong Police Force’s Huanggang Port Reporting Centre. When using the roaming service, members of the public will NOT be able to contact Hong Kong’s 999 emergency call centre by dialling 00852-112 or 00852-999.

If the mobile phone is unable to connect to the subscribed network, users may try calling 110 to reach the Mainland police emergency service. Should the incident reported occur within the Hong Kong Port Area, the Mainland authorities will coordinate with the Hong Kong side for follow-up.

Government Wi-Fi Service User Guidelines

To enable members of the public to access Internet services smoothly and efficiently in the Hong Kong Port Area, the Digital Policy Office will provide free public Wi-Fi network coverage within the port building, including the public transport interchange. Members of the public who wish to use the Government Wi-Fi service at the Hong Kong Port Area simply need to turn on their device's Wi-Fi function, select “Wi-Fi.HK” from the list of available Wi-Fi networks, and then click “Connect”. The service will be available once the connection is successful. No registration is required for this service.

The Government Wi-Fi Services are intended to meet the general internet needs of the public during boundary crossing. Users should be aware that the Government Wi-Fi services are public resources that are shared with other users.

As Wi-Fi signals are easily affected by various factors—such as the distance and obstacles between the Wi-Fi hotspot and the mobile device, interference from other wireless networks, the performance of the mobile device and the orientation of its antenna, website load, and other factors—connection speeds may vary depending on the environment, the number of concurrent users, and the content and performance of the websites being accessed. Generally, signals are stronger near areas with Wi-Fi.HK hotspot signage within the premises. We recommend that members of the public connect to the Wi-Fi in the vicinity of these signposted areas to enjoy a more stable Wi-Fi service.
