Residents who intend to visit the country or are already there should monitor the situation, exercise caution, attend to personal safety, pay attention to local announcements on the latest situation and avoid large gatherings of people. Residents should also avoid non-essential travel to Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers. Residents in Peru who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868, call the 1868 hotline using network data or use the 1868 Chatbot via the Immigration Department Mobile Application, send message to the 1868 WhatsApp assistance hotline, send message to the 1868 WeChat assistance hotline or submit the Online Assistance Request Form, or contact the Chinese Embassy in Peru at consular protection hotline: (51) 995203968.
Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit – Online Assistance Request Form
- In view of recent violent clashes and extortion resulting in casualties, a 30-day state of emergency in the capital Lima and the neighbouring province Callao was declared by the Peruvian authority on 17 March 2025.
- Since late January 2024, strikes have occurred in Machu Picchu, a scenic spot in Peru. There were suspension of the train services to the scenic spot, leaving tourists stranded.
- In view of ongoing demonstrations across Peru, the Peruvian authority extended a state of emergency for 30 days in some areas (including in Lima, Cusco and Puno regions) and imposed a 10-day curfew in Puno region on 14 January 2023.
- Demonstrations across Peru was ongoing and a 30-day nationwide state of emergency was declared by the Peruvian authority on 14 December 2022. There were reports of disruption of transportation and some airports were affected.
- Since early December 2022, demonstrations broke out across Peru. There are reports of violent clashes resulting casualties. The operation of the airport in Arequipa was affected.

Before departing Hong Kong, residents may register via ROTI their travel itineraries and contact details to receive updates on OTA and related information. The Immigration Department may contact and assist the registrants in an emergency.
