Residents who intend to visit the country or are already there should monitor the situation, exercise caution, attend to personal safety and avoid protests and large gatherings of people. Residents should also avoid non-essential travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts region due to unstable security situation. Residents in Bangladesh who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868, call the 1868 hotline using network data or use the 1868 Chatbot via the Immigration Department Mobile Application, send message to the 1868 WhatsApp assistance hotline, send message to the 1868 WeChat assistance hotline or submit the Online Assistance Request Form, or contact the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh at consular protection hotline: (88) 01713090563.
Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit – Online Assistance Request Form
- In mid July 2024, large-scale protests and violent clashes occurred across Bangladesh, resulting in casualties.
- On 28 October 2023, large scale demonstrations and violent clashes occurred in the capital city, Dhaka, resulting in casualties.
- On 18 March 2019, shooting occurred in the south-eastern district of Rangamati, resulting in casualties.
- Since late July 2018, there have been series of demonstrations in Dhaka, some of which have turned violent and resulted in injuries.
- In late March 2017, bomb attacks occurred in the capital city, Dhaka and the north-eastern city of Sylhet respectively, resulting in casualties.
- On 1 July 2016, gunmen attacked a cafe in the diplomatic area of the capital city, Dhaka, and took hostage of some 20 people including foreigners, resulting in casualties.
- In late October 2015, a bomb attack occurred during a religious gathering in the capital city, Dhaka, resulting in casualties.
- Attacks to foreign nationals occurred in the capital city, Dhaka, in late September 2015 and in northern Rangpur district in early October 2015, resulting in casualties.
- The general election took place on 5 January 2014. There were demonstrations, violent clashes and general strikes throughout the country, resulting in serious casualties
- In early May 2013, demonstrations and violent clashes occurred in the capital city, Dhaka, resulting in casualties.
- In late February 2013, sparked by a death sentence handed to a senior Islamist leader, violent clashes occurred across the country, resulting in casualties. Further protests and strikes are expected in early March 2013.
- Strike in Sylhet in end April 2012 caused violent clashes.

Registration for Outbound Travel Information (ROTI)
Before departing Hong Kong, residents may register via ROTI their travel itineraries and contact details to receive updates on OTA and related information. The Immigration Department may contact and assist the registrants in an emergency.
