Supplementary Information
Residents who intend to visit the country or are already there should monitor the situation, exercise caution, attend to personal safety, pay attention to local announcements on the latest situation and avoid protests and large gatherings of people. Residents should also avoid all travel to the southern Tunisia, including areas along the borders with Algeria and Libya, and Chaambi Mountain National Park area due to the unpredictable security situation. Residents in Tunisia who need assistance may call the 24-hour hotline of the Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868, call the 1868 hotline using network data or use the 1868 Chatbot via the Immigration Department Mobile Application, send message to the 1868 WhatsApp assistance hotline, send message to the 1868 WeChat assistance hotline or submit the Online Assistance Request Form, or contact the Chinese Embassy in Tunisia at consular protection hotline: (216) 98463848.
Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit – Online Assistance Request Form
- On 9 May 2023, a shooting occurred near a synagogue on the island of Djerba, resulting in casualties.
- On 27 June 2019, two explosions occurred in the capital Tunis, resulting in casualties.
- Tunisia is now under the state of emergency. The Tunisian authorities have extended the national state of emergency many times since it was first imposed in November 2015. Security forces remain on a high state of alert.
- On 29 October 2018, an explosion occurred in the capital Tunis, causing serious injuries.
- On 8 July 2018, the Tunisian security forces were attacked by militants in the Jendouba province near Algeria border, resulting in casualties.
- In early March 2016, attacks and clashes occurred between militants and the Tunisian security forces in Ben Guerdane near Libyan border, resulting in casualties.
- On 24 November 2015, an explosion hit a bus reported to be carrying presidential guards in the capital Tunis, resulting in casualties. The Tunisian authorities declared a state of emergency for the whole country for 30 days and the capital was under curfew. The curfew was lifted in mid-December 2015, and the national state of emergency was extended a few times.
- On 2 October 2015, the Tunisian authorities lifted the state of emergency for the country.
- On 6 September 2015, the Tunisian authorities warned of possible car bomb attacks in the capital Tunis. Security arrangements had been stepped up.
- On 4 July 2015, the Tunisian authorities declared a state of emergency for the whole country for 30 days, giving security forces more powers and limiting the right of public assembly. The state of emergency was extended for a further 2 months effective from 3 August 2015.
- On 26 June 2015, gunmen attacked a beach near the tourist resort of Sousse, resulting in serious casualties including tourists.
- On 18 March 2015, gunmen attacked the Bardo Museum in the capital Tunis, killing and injuring a number of people including tourists.
- In late October 2013, a suicide bomber detonated himself in the tourist resort of Sousse. There were no other casualties.
- In late July 2013, sparked by a politician being killed, protests occurred in the capital, Tunis, and other cities in Tunisia. There were general strikes throughout the country and some flights were affected.
- In early February 2013, demonstrations occurred in various parts of the country, including the capital, Tunis. It was reported that general strikes had been announced throughout the country.

Before departing Hong Kong, residents may register via ROTI their travel itineraries and contact details to receive updates on OTA and related information. The Immigration Department may contact and assist the registrants in an emergency.
